Eating nutritious foods, such as fruit, can help you relax more effectively when moving houseMoving is stressful – everyone’s who has ever done it will no doubt agree!
But just because it’s stressful doesn’t mean that you have to be stressed all the time. As moving is such a long and drawn out process, it’s important that you implement relaxation strategies all the time so that you look forward to moving day and life in your new house rather than dread it.
Follow these relaxation tips and push yourself towards a happier and more relaxed house move:
Eat well
The human body is designed to function best when well-nourished, and it’s easy to get lethargic and depressed when you don’t take in the right amount of vitamins and minerals. Eating well not only relaxes you generally but also gives you the energy needed to fuel all your moving-related activities, preventing you from feeling like you have a neverending to-do list. Don't be tempted to live off takeaways for a whole week!
Exercise and sleep well
These two go together hand in hand; it’s been shown that regular moderate exercise can help you sleep more deeply. Exercise is also a natural mood lifter, helping you fight depression and fatigue and enjoy your life more. It can also actually increase your energy levels, which will be very useful as your house move progresses. Try to get out into the fresh air, rather than using the packing routine as your exercise. In terms of sleep, aim for around 8 hours a night. Sleep in total darkness, as this stimulates melatonin production and encourages more restful sleep.
Have a getaway
When you move house, your home can quickly become stifling as you have to live and work in the same area. This is particularly true once packing has begun as it’s likely rooms will become messier, with less space to relax and unwind. That’s why it’s important to have a getaway area that completely removes you from the hustle and bustle of your house move. For some people this may be a round of golf, or a bridge evening, or perhaps even a salsa dancing class. Whatever helps you relax and forget about your house move is the perfect choice.
Involve your friends
Human beings are social creatures and enjoy socialising at the best of times, but it becomes particularly important in times of stress or difficulty. Involving your friends in your house move, whether simply telling them how you are feeling, or asking them to help you out, can work wonders for your stress levels. If they help you with your packing, you’ll get everything done in half the time and will have someone at hand to have a cup of tea with when the going gets tough.
